Another favorite cookie

OatmealRaisinChocChipCookies

I recently saw a recipe for an oatmeal raisin chocolate chip cookie and decided to try it. It has become a new favorite around here. I did change up the original recipe quite a bit so I'm posting it with my changes.

Oatmeal Raisin Chocolate Chip Cookies

2 sticks butter, softened
1 1/3 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 cup flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3 cups old fashioned oats
1 cup raisins (microwave for 1 minute with 2 Tbsps. water then cool)
1 cup chocolate chips

Cream butter, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
Add salt and baking soda. Blend and then add flour.
Finally stir in oats, cooled raisins, and chocolate chips.
Use a small scoop to portion out onto baking sheets and bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. I get five baking sheets of cookies from this recipe and they are very good.

A Mayberry Afternoon

Several weeks ago we were invited to attend an anniversary party in the town of Laurens, South Carolina. Sharon Barnes owns a frame shop called Picture This Frame and Art and to celebrate her anniversary she had a party which was open to the public. The theme of the party was carried out very successfully and she and her husband and staff worked very hard in preparation for it.

Here are Sharon and her husband greeting the guests as they arrived:

Sharon hired a Christian couple that impersonate Barney Fife and Thelma Lou. "Barney" gave a nice devotional message during the program.

They even have an old black and white squad car that they drove to the party.

Sharon also hired some Christian musicians to impersonate the Darlin family.

Later in the afternoon they invited others to join them with their instruments.

This lovely staff lady helped serve the refreshments.

There were also some trivia questions about the Mayberry episodes and Sharon had framed some pictures of the stars of Andy and the gang as prizes.

We were the lucky winners of some very nice prizes. If you need something framed I hope you will consider visiting Sharon's shop and while you are there you can enjoy exploring the town square in Laurens.

I’ve been wondering about them

For several years I have thought about and prayed for the Willis family who had a tragic car accident in 1994 which killed six of their children and left both of the parents badly burned. I recently found a couple of articles about the family which I thought might interest some of my readers. It was a blessing to read how the Lord has helped them through their great loss and how He continues to give them opportunities to minister to others. Here are the links:

Mrs. Willis has written a book about heaven.

In an online article they reflect about the accident.

I also found an article about one of their older surviving children and his family.
