If you read my previous post you may remember that our daughter Megan and grandson Drew were here visiting us recently. When we drove up to Michigan we made the trip all in one day since it was just DH and me. When we returned home with Megan and Drew (who is three years old) we decided that we needed to spend the night in a hotel to break up the trip.
One of my favorite activities while staying in a hotel is watching programs on the food network. The night we were watching in the hotel we happened to catch a program — Drive-Ins, Diners, and Dives — featuring various restaurants and their specialties. They mentioned a place in Knoxville, Tennessee called the Pizza Palace. Since we would be traveling through Knoxville the next day we decided to stop and try it out. We were not disappointed!
The Pizza Palace is not a fancy place, but the food was very tasty. We actually stopped again on our way to take Megan and Drew to Cincinnati this past weekend and then again on our way home. Here are a few pictures in case you would like to try it sometime when you are in Knoxville:
Here's a picture of the restaurant:

Here is Jerry tossing pizza dough:

Here are the onion rings prepared by Chef Monroe :

The spaghetti is one of their specialties.

This pizza was delicious.

Our waitresses, Vanessa and Pat were exceptionally friendly and helpful. It was a fun little adventure and we plan to go back in the future when we pass through the area. It's right down the street from the Knoxville Zoo. I would encourage you to give it a try and then let me know how you like it.

I love the Food Network and since I’ve been sick, have been watching their new Cooking Channel (took the place of Fine Living). Which is rather ironic that I’m watching all these shows and can’t fix dinner right now.
One of our local restaurants was featured in an early episode of Drive-Ins, Diners, and Dives. It was well known around here but now I’ve heard they have people drive from far away to eat there. That show has quite an audience!

Last week my husband and I were in Greenville visiting friends who took us to “Rocks” for dinner one evening. “Rocks” is located in an old gas station near Lake Robinson. Their hamburgers are made from freshly-ground, never-before-frozen beef (sirloin?), and the rest of their main dishes are equally delicious. The real star of the show is their fried squash; it was so tasty that I ate two orders of it. I’m trying to figure out how they made it! Their green beans were scrumptious (just like Mom used to make–actually, just like I used to make when all the kids still lived at home. Our friends told us that the restaurant had changed owners several times during tha past three years, but now the original owners have it again. Have you eaten then before?
