I always get my kids each a book for Christmas. I have to plan way ahead since we moved to Germany beause I still get them English books and order them from the States or England. I also just started reading a book from Robert Whitlow. I have read some John Grisham, and Robert Whitlow writes like that only from a Christian worldview. So far it is very good and I am over 1/2 way done.

One of my best friends sent me a book entitled, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Shaffer and Barrows (pretend that the title is underlined). The story is framed by a series of letters from an author from London to a community on Guernsey, one of the Channel Islands. I loved the book 34 Charing Cross Road (prentend underline again), and this book is similar. A simple story and easy to read!

I collect Christmas books, and this year’s title is “Fear Not, Joseph.” It is a beautifully illustrated book that takes the theme of Joseph’s obedience to God’s commands before and after the birth of Christ.

The other gift that might speak to you is the “whistling teapot” my husband and I picked out together. Great design, bright cherry red, and whistling. What more could I want? Well, honesty, I’d say. We have named our “Moaning Myrtle” since the sound emitted is much more of a moan than a whistle. Maybe a nod to my years as a children’s librarian to boil water in a Harry Potter pot. Happy New Year, and glad you have your own blog.

I got Come to the Table, too! I also got 3 other craft books. I usually get some Christian fiction, but I have several stacked up already waiting for me.

Hi Becka ~ I am thrilled to add your new blog to my bloglines list!! Yay! I agree with another commenter who said she was glad it didn’t take you long to decide to have your own blog! I love it! I think you will get addicted–in a good way, of course.

To answer your question, I actually had two books on my list (the Artisan Bread one that you received and One Skein Knitting) but decided to keep checking the knitting one out of the library and am just waiting awhile on getting the bread one. I have bread bakers around here that do it all for me so maybe I don’t need the book until the girls are married. LOL! From your description it sounds like a very worthwhile book.

I plan to post lots of recipes. I just mixed up a batch of pizza dough from the Artisan Bread book this afternoon and plan to bake it off tomorrow. I had tried a few loaves of the bread from a site I found on-line a few weeks ago. That prompted me to get the book from the library. After that I decided I needed to ask for it for Christmas. Their bread making techniques are really very easy and produce crusty, flavorful loaves with minimal effort.

Becka, I’m so glad to see you are blogging. Will you be sharing lots of good recipes?
I received books for Christmas too, but not 10 of them! I have been reading a lot about Thomas Jefferson lately, and received “Monticello in Measured Drawings” and “Thomas Jefferson Architect”. And with a gift card I got for Barnes and Noble, I sent for two new knitting books. I can hardly wait until they arrive.
I guess I shouldn’t have to add that my hobbies are knitting and history … and cooking and baking. Now I’m going to have to look into your new book, Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day.
I have 3 bookshelves in my living room: one for history related books, one for cookbooks and the third for knitting and other needlework.
I’ll look forward to each new addition to your blog.

Some intriguing books there! Esp. the soup one and the artisanal bread in 5 minutes daily…

Alas, no books for me this year. Last year I got 2 by Elizabeth Gaskell. Fabulous!
