A couple of years ago I got quite a few books for Christmas. One that I really enjoyed was Dewey The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World. I wrote a post about the book. A few weeks ago I received an email asking if I would like to preview another book by the same authors.
The new book is Dewey's Nine Lives: The Legacy of the Small-Town Library Cat Who Inspired Millions. It contains two more stories about Dewey and the rest of the book is comprised of stories from other cat owners who sent in their own inspiring cat tales.
The publisher, Dutton, is sponsoring a contest for anyone who would like to send in their true tale about a special cat that they have known. The winning selection will be included in the paperback edition of the book. You can read all the details here.
In addition, I have the privilege of giving away two copies of the new book, Dewey's Nine Lives. To enter the drawing all you have to do is leave a comment on this post before 11:59 p.m. (EDT) on October 18, 2010. I will be able to accept comments only from those living in the United States and Canada. All the names will be put in a hat (literally!) and my able-bodied assistant will draw the names of the two winners. The winning books will be sent directly from the publisher. Be sure to include your name with your comment so I can contact you in case you are one of the winners.
So, if you like cats and would like to read about some special ones I hope you will enter my first-ever give-away contest!
Becka

Mrs. Loach,
I was just wondering if a comment would be accepted by an American living overseas but who can also provide an address in the US?

I’d like a chance to win!

I went right to the web site of my local library and reserved a copy of Dewy The Small Town Cat Who Touched the World after reading your blog about the book. It was a great read. I thought I might purchase it but so far have not. My husband and I lived in Iowa for about 3 years so it brought back some fond memories of the life style of the State. I would greatly like a chance to win one of the new books.

Sounds like a fun read. You can add me to the list!

My school is doing a book fair this week. They are selling a kids version of Dewey as well as one of the adult books. Looks like it would be a good read!

Melissa, if you have a US mailing address you can certainly be entered in the contest!

I definitely want to enter your contest! I read the first Dewey book after you commented on it on your blog, and I LOVED it–being the cat lover that I am. I never win anything, so I’ll be super surprised if I win this one. 🙂 Thanks for the offer! as well as the tip on the sequel…

Thank you, Mrs. Loach. I would love to enter the contest. I remember your original post about Dewey, and when you mentioned the contest, I thought about a friend of mine here who loves cats and has very good English.

Please enter me in your giveaway. Sounds like a delightful book.

Every library should have a cat. Sign me up for the contest. The first book was great.

Sure, enter me – would make a nice Christmas present for a friend of mine who dearly loves cats!

Mrs. Loach: A friend gave me a copy of the original Dewey book, and
I loved it. I am a native Iowan and enjoy anything written about my
home state. I would love to win a copy of “Dewey’s Nine Lives.”

I have a cat with nine lives…I think I’ll send his story to that publisher. Why not? I do enjoy reading your blog!

I love books. I love cats (and dogs). I love Dewey, so I hope I win. If I don’t, betcha I’ll buy the book anyway. I’m proud of your literary recognition.

Hi, I’ve just been reading a wonderful book about a Cat Veterinarian (Dr. Camuti) who made house calls in NYC for 60 years. “All my Patients are under the Bed” another one of my favorite cat books is “The 89th Cat”. I love reading and learning about new books. I’ve seen the first Dewey book, at a school bookfair but wasn’t able to read it. I’d love to part of your drawing. Thanks for the great blog!

I have long enjoyed your husband’s blog and have just learned of yours this week. Apparently my timing was excellent, as your give away of the cat book is very appealing to my family.

Love to read! Sounds like a good book. Please add me.

I LOVE THE FIRST BOOK! I didn’t know that there was a sequal, but I would love to read it. Add me to the list!

I loved the first book. Dewey looked much like a cat we had and I could see our cat behaving much like Dewey under the same circumstances.
on Oct 14th, 2010 at 10:16 pm
Sounds like fun! Put me on the list, too.
on Oct 14th, 2010 at 10:20 pm
Put my name in the hat! I’ll find a way to read this book even if I don’t win it!

I would love to win this book!

I’m sure my kids would enjoy reading this book. Thanks!

Sounds like a great book, thanks for sharing about it! I’ve had cats all my life, and my current two are a lot of fun. We gave the first “Dewey” book to my grandmother for Christmas – she loves cats, too.

Sounds like a super book! I do love cats — and books — what a great combination! BTW, I found that book Beth read about the NYC vet as a used book at a resale store to benefit our local humane society. 😉

Hi Becka, please enter my name in your cat book contest. I’m not a cat lover myself, but if I won, you could give my book to Rhonda…I know she’s a real cat lover! 🙂

Thank you, Mrs. Loach, for your most charming cat pictures and the information about the cat books. They have to be fascinating stories.
Some day, Lord willing, I plan to write a book, “Some Cats I Have Known”. I have a few of the stories written — I doubt if the writing is good enough to entice Dutton’s interest — but those cat events are fun to think back on. They are some of the blessings the Lord gave us along the way.
Blessings on your day,
Elaine

Thank you! I am thrilled to find that I won this book. We can’t wait to read it!

Totally cool to have won! A nice surprise! I will likely read it – without bending the binding before giving it as a gift to a fellow cat lover.
