Small unfurnished apartment

We have a small unfurnished apartment on our property. It has been occupied by many young couples over the years and it's always exciting to see them fix it up in their own unique fashion. Since it is quite small they don't seem to stay very long after they have a family. We never seem to have trouble finding renters though since it's in a good location.

The place was unoccupied over the winter and our colder than normal temperatures caused some roof problems. Rob inspected it thoroughly this spring and decided major repairs were in order--in fact it needed a complete overhaul.

I'm happy to say that we now have new occupants and we couldn't be happier with them. The husband is quite musical and we often hear him practicing his vocal numbers. This couple, like the others probably won't stay around long but we'll certainly enjoy having them while they are here.

Here' a picture of our little apartment:

The new little couple are house wrens. They have been busy building their nest and hopefully sometime soon will have a brood of their own.

You had me going there for a minute – was wishing I’d known about this apartment last summer when we were looking for something for our daughter!! 🙂 Great ending!!

I was wondering just the other day about your birdhouse and how it was doing. Thanx for sharing!

You definitely had me going, Becka. I was thinking… wow! I had no idea they had an apartment! Is it in the basement? But then I thought about your location and couldn’t imagine it. Very funny! I know you’ll enjoy your birds. We’ve been fighting off the birds at our house. The wrens want to build on our front porch or in our garage. We let them build on our front porch once, and never again if we can help it! They had brood after brood of babies, and didn’t keep their household very clean at all. Plus they would dive bomb anyone who tried to use our front door! Jess came up with a creative solution to keep them off the porch, and we’re keeping our garage door closed as much as possible. We love the birds, but want to keep them in our many trees in the yard rather than in the house with us! 🙂

Hahaha! You had me! I knew I’d never heard anything about an apartment that you had before! Very creative! I always love our birdie families, too, except when they make a nest in my fern!

Rhonda, how do you keeping them from using your porch? Every year they use our hanging ferns for nesting sites. We’ve tried everything suggested and so far nothing has worked.
