Sunday dinner insurance

Have you ever rushed out of the house on a Sunday morning without putting your casserole in the oven or turning on your crockpot? Or, have you sat there during the church service wondering if you had turned the oven or crockpot on? Unfortunately, I have done both.

I am going to show you my foolproof method for reminding yourself to turn on the oven or crockpot before you leave the house. My family teases me for doing this, but it really does work. Are you ready for this foolproof tip? Here it is:

Just put a chair in front of the door that you normally walk out of when you leave the house. When you have to move the chair it will remind you to check the oven or crockpot. It works for me!

That’s a great idea! I often do something like this when I need to remember something by putting something like a hat in an odd place. When I see it I wonder why its there and then remember what it was I was supposed to remember. The chair trick is even better though.

LOL! Well, that’s interesting and would be a sure reminder when you can’t get out the door! 🙂 I’ve had to come up with similar things to help me remember items of importance. Trouble is…I’ve questioned myself many times on wondering what I’m supposed to remember when I see whatever I picked to remember that thing! 🙂

I have vivid memories of the first time I found this memory aid in our kitchen. I thought, “What in the world is this chair doing here?!” and moved it back to its rightful place. Then you kindly told me that you’d set it there on purpose and I was risking having raw chicken for lunch by moving that chair. I think too of things Nora has done in connection with this memory aid of yours. 😀

Cute! How many times have we come home to dinner not ready…so sad! Yes, it would definitely be hard to miss a chair parked right in front of the door, and yes, my family would get quite a few chuckles out of that, but I think you are on to something. Thanks for sharing your idea.

I have memory aids too–I leave the stove hood light on to remind me that something’s in the oven. Although, I do use a timer–all the time! I lived with a girl once who put brownies in the oven (no timer) and then laid down for a nap. Needless to say, there were blackies, and lots of smoke!
