Surgery was postponed. The first doctor who read the MRI thought Nora needed surgery. The spine doctor wanted to try treating it with a steroid epidural and very strong pain meds first. She had the epidural this morning and is now resting. She may need to go back Monday for another. She was somewhat disappointed because she wanted the pain to be gone right away, but we are taking this step from the Lord and praying that it might be enough without the surgery. I’m sure she’s disappointed, but it’s always better to be able to heal naturally when possible. Back surgery is not easy and I’ve heard frin several people who went through back surgery only to have the problem come back at them.
We’ve prayed for God to give the doctors wisdom and this may be the wisdom we asked for. Only time will tell.

Good news, Becka! Praise the Lord! I think surgery should be a last option, not a first. As encouragement, let me tell you that Jess had a similar diagnosis as Nora, and the epidural did the job for him. I think he ultimately had to have it done twice, but it did dramatically relieve his pain. Let’s pray it does the same for Nora.
